Project
Centenary Theatre Company
This project focused on designing and developing a full website for Centenary Theatre Company, an award-winning amateur theatre group that has been bringing world-class productions to Warrington and Cheshire since 1901. As a registered charity and NODA affiliate, the company needed a modern digital home that reflected both their rich heritage and their busy, community-driven programme of events.
The goal was to build a website that clearly communicates upcoming productions, encourages community involvement, and provides an easy-to-manage platform the company can keep up to date themselves. The site needed to feel warm, celebratory, and professional — worthy of a company with over a century of theatrical excellence behind it.
Challenge
The Challenge
The main challenge was building a website that could serve multiple audiences — theatre-goers looking for tickets, potential members wanting to get involved, other groups interested in costume hire, and sponsors seeking partnership opportunities — all without the site feeling cluttered or overwhelming.
Key challenges included:
- Presenting a high volume of content (productions, news, policies, archive) in a clear and accessible way
- Reflecting over 124 years of heritage while keeping the design fresh and contemporary
- Building a platform that a volunteer-run organisation could maintain confidently without technical support
- Ensuring upcoming productions were always front and centre, with easy ticket-booking signposting
- Capturing the warmth and community spirit of the company through design and copy
Solution
The Solution
I designed and developed a warm, visually engaging website with the company’s rich history and active productions programme at its heart. The solution included:
- A bold, theatre-inspired visual identity using the company’s brand colours — deep navy, signature red, and gold accents
- A dynamic homepage featuring an upcoming productions section, heritage story, and calls-to-action for membership, costume hire, donations, and sponsorship
- An auto-rotating news carousel to keep audiences engaged with the latest company announcements
- A clearly structured past productions archive that celebrates the company’s theatrical history
- A fully responsive, mobile-friendly design optimised for audiences across all devices
- A WordPress CMS setup giving the team full control over productions, news, and page content going forward
Outcome
The Outcome
The website gives Centenary Theatre Company a digital presence that genuinely reflects the energy, warmth, and ambition of the organisation. It provides a clear pathway for audiences to discover upcoming shows, for potential members to find out how to get involved, and for the wider community to support the company as a registered charity.
The platform is built to grow with the company — whether that means promoting new productions, adding policy documents, or expanding the archive — giving the team a flexible, sustainable foundation for years to come.
